Family Photo Shoot – The Boiler House

An interesting location steeped with history.

Known for my outdoor family photo shoots in Colchester many of my enquiries are for sessions in local country parks or at the beach. Some I’ve worked at almost weekly and I know inside out, others are brand new. Then an interesting email hit my inbox. Would I photograph their family in a derelict boiler house? I’ll add that this building was in fact owned by this family, a property to be developed into homes. This building meant a lot to them, their biggest project yet. Here are a few of the photographs I was sent –

As I clicked through each one I beamed! Not only would I be able to get creative in an entirely new space, a building like this had been on my photography bucket list for years! Steeped with history, gorgeous exposed brick and don’t even get me started on those windows. I was all in. Next came the planning stages and inevitably this included clothing choices. I was sent photos of some beautiful dresses, though she worried it was a bit much. No way, if you love that dress you wear it! I explained that as long as the whole family dressed smart then it would work. In fact this space was calling out for some special outfits. So we planned, our joint excitement growing as our shoot day approached.

I’ll let the stunning images speak for themselves now. But oh those walls, those windows, that beautiful family…

Sarah was an absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish. She captured beautiful photos for our son’s first birthday, which we will cherish forever.

On to the next location of our family photo shoot!

Our session was halfway through. We spent an hour here then took a very short drive to Chalkney Woods, another first for me! We planned it so that this part of our photo shoot would coincide with golden hour. Literal MAGIC happened…

I would highly recommend booking a session with Sarah and we look forward to shooting with her in the future!

Is there a location that has special meaning to you? Wonder if you’re bonkers or about to make some magic happen? I’m game if you are! No matter the location I’ll create stunning portraits that you’ll be proud to display on your walls for years to come. I pride myself on making the most of a location, planning sessions with you and chasing that beautiful light. Whether you want to get messy baking at home in your pjs or you want to pop on a ball gown and head to the woods, we will create art together.

A photo shoot with me is an adventure, child led and always tailored to you!

Blog coming soon – Clothing choices. I’m always here to guide you and help you prepare for your family photo shoot. Clothing guidance is always part of this. I will happily assist you in choosing clothing that suits the location, your family style and ultimately the look you want to achieve in your images. But it’s not all simple colour palettes and matching tops! Your clothing is about blending you together as a family and allowing your personalities to shine through. Sometimes that means a baby in a simple white visit or a settling on a few colours. Other times it means rainbow colours and clashing patterns – because you are unique!
