Newborns at home – Model Call

30th March 2016

Towards the end of last year (2015) I posted a model call for “Newborns at home” sessions. Being a lifestyle photographer this is something I’ve wanted to offer for a while. I adore my outdoor sessions with families but I felt something was missing. Photographing babies at home seemed the natural way to go for me. To capture the connections, the emotions, the little details and overall just real life.

The benefit of these sessions is that they require little preparation from you, we are capturing your life. A bit of tidying (though not much), clothes you feel comfortable in, everything to hand, no packing of bags or disrupting baby or siblings. I arrive at your home, you don’t need to be “ready” and your children might be napping – perfect we’ll get some sleeping shots! Also, unlike posed newborn sessions (which are stunning and I am in awe of the work of some of my fellow photographers, it’s just not for me) we aren’t limited to the first 1-2 weeks. Of course if you’d like to schedule a session this early I am more than willing to accommodate you but there is no pressure at all. In fact anytime in the first 3 months is perfect. You may wish to look up “The Wonder Weeks” to check if your baby may be experiencing a leap/growth spurt but we can of course work around this. We may just have many shots of feeding and cuddles, but that’s real life right?!

So my lovely models welcomed me into their homes. Into this intimate time with their new additions, their surroundings. Just me, them and my camera at the ready. We talked about their births (love a birth story!), feeding, babywearing, all sorts.

My first session was with a family I’ve met twice before for outdoor sessions. What an honour it was to now see their family grow by one!

I thoroughly enjoyed this session and it was particularly special to me since I first met them almost 2 years ago! The love of an older sibling is a very special thing indeed. A huge thank you to them for being my very first “Newborn at home” session!

I’ll do a separate blog for my 2nd model call family, a brand new family of 3… Link here
